Cosmetic Surgery Financing

I don’t know why this is, but we are more critical of ourselves and other women than men are. Either they are more acceptable to our little (or big) physical handicaps, as long as they are getting some attention or they just shut up because if they complain, they know they aren’t getting any attention. That’s why they never answer the “Does my butt look big in these pants?” question.

And girls I know we are never happy with the way we look. It all depends if these problems are with our face or our body, but I think we have three choices:

  1. Live with it…accept things as they are.
  2. Take care of ourself with diet and exercise for your body and over the counter products for our face.
  3. Cosmetic surgery.

Sometimes we feel we need cosmetic surgery for a medical issue. Ex: If you have large breasts they could contribute to your back aches. As you know, cosmetic surgery is not covered by health insurance because it is elective and not considered a medical necessity. Reconstructive surgery is covered by most health insurance policies although coverage for a specific procedures and levels of coverage may very greatly.

The general rule insurance companies follow is that if there is a medical reason for the surgery, it will be covered under reconstructive surgery. Another example, a patient may need a rhinoplasty due to obstructive breathing. A second patient may want a rhinoplasty because she feels her nose is not perfect. The first patient may have it covered by insurance, the second patient would not.

Most insurance companies will have medical criteria that must be met in order for the surgery to be covered. This is especially true for the above example regarding breast reduction. Depending upon height, weight, and medical conditions, a certain number of grams must be taken off each breast. And even if you are getting the plastic surgery for a medical reason and you have insurance coverage, it does not mean the insurance carrier will pay the full amount of the surgery cost. Depending upon your specific insurance plan, you may have to pay a deductible.

Many patients choose their cosmetic surgeon based on prices for plastic surgery rather than credentials. It is important to thoroughly research your doctor to ensure that he or she has the requisite training, experience, and facility. Making sure you get the results you desire the first time around could mean lower cosmetic surgery costs in the long run. Choosing an inexperienced surgeon could jeopardize your safety and result in health problems or the need for follow-up surgeries.

Most surgeons offer patients a range of payment options to help cover plastic surgery costs, including cash, check, and credit cards. In addition, most doctors offer plastic surgery financing plans to help patients set up an affordable payment schedule. Talk to the surgeons in your area to find out which payment and financing options are available to patients. Some surgeons work with local companies to help patients finance healthcare treatments.

Cosmetic surgery financing allows patients to break up the costs of their cosmetic surgery treatment into affordable monthly payments. Some health care credit companies have guaranteed financing for cosmetic surgery with bad credit.
