Reloxin vs Botox

U.S. Food and Drug Administration had extended its review of Reloxin to April 13, 2009 for possible approval.

Botox has become one of the most popular beauty products in the nation with nearly $1 billion dollars in sales each year. Now for the first time, the Food and Drug Administration is about to approve a new product that will compete with Botox called Reloxin.

Reloxin is working like Botox. It's the same type of protein. It's not toxic. It's perfectly safe. It's been proven for years now and it cost less than Botox.

Botox has been the most popular cosmetic procedure for the last 5 years. And as Americans become more conscious of how they spend their cash, Reloxin could not come at a better time.

Description

Reloxin is also known as Dysport. It is used as a treatment for a rare disorder called cervical dystonia. This is a condition where the head turns and twists into postures that are abnormal because of an uncontrollable and painful contraction of the muscles. It is also used for cosmetic purposes to prevent wrinkles. It has also been used for patients suffering from other conditions such as anal fissures, Hailey-Hailey disease, epiphora and gustaroty sweating, dyshidrotic eczema and facial flushing that is persistent.

Advantages of Reloxin

For those people who are looking to turn back the hands of time, this new product may be a good try. Having this drug on the market may help to reduce the costs of other similar treatments such as Botox.

Using Reloxin can effectively reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in the skin. As with Botox, results can last from 4 to 6 months. Reloxin is another option that patients may choose to control the signs of aging.

Dosage

Dysport is a form of botulinum toxin Type A and is in a form that can be injected. Using Reloxin is much like using Botox. It is injected in small doses into the muscles that cause wrinkles in order to prevent the contraction of those muscles. This effectively reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

Side effects

Side affects associated with the treatment of wrinkles in this product are mild and almost non-existent. Side effects experienced may include a slight burning sensation when receiving the injection, swelling or bruising, or local numbness in the area surrounding the injection. Some patients have complained of nausea and temporary headaches. Most of these and any other side effects experienced are temporary and can often be avoided when the medical professional doing the procedure uses the proper techniques for injection.

Most physicians will apply a topical anesthetic so that no pain is felt during the treatment. This will numb the area therefore making it much more comfortable.

Precautions

When having Reloxin treatments, patients need to ensure that they are in the hands of an experienced person who is trained in giving injections. Most complications from this treatment result from the improper method of injection and the amount that is injected. If too much of Reloxin is injected the patient may notice symptoms such as dry eyes, a smile that is not symmetrical, eyes appearing cockeyed, one brow that is higher than the other and problems that affect the eyelids and brow. These complications can last as long as three months, so it is important to find the right clinic or physician to work with.

Recommendations

Before proceeding with Reloxin treatments, the person must be sure that this is something that they want to do. Fighting the signs of aging has become a big business and care should be taken when it comes to deciding who should give this treatment. Research must be carried out regarding Dysport and advice must be sought from others who have undergone this type of procedure. A reference from former patients also helps to decide on the right doctor.

The FDA is expected to approve Reloxin sometime this month. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery predicts similar products will enter pre-market clinical trials this year.
